"The Donkey's problem" - Very short story for you and your children
Once upon a time, there was a donkey that was equally hungry and thirsty standing exactly midway between bale of hay and bucket of water. Unable to decide whether to eat first or drink first, tragically, the donkey died of hunger and thirst.
- The End -
Note:
Counterintuitively, choices may not always lead to desirable outcome, a random choice could have saved the donkey's life.
Even if we have the perfect information, we choose based on facts and assumptions at that time t=0, one thing is certain at t=t+1, we are all wrong, wrong decision at t=0 is better than no decision. Time dimension is least understood and most complicated of all.
Finally, this story is a philosophical paradox called Buridan's ass named after French Philosopher Jean Buridan, although both Aristotle and Al-Ghazali have discussed this concept before him.
