A million opportunities lie ahead of you in 2024. Are you ready?

I had a great break- traveling, reading, listening, and catching up with friends and family.

Not surprisingly, the aimless wandering during the break helped me connect the dots and reset for 2024.

I got the message from a framed poster in a Thai restaurant while having lunch.

“Do not dwell in the past.

Do not dream of the future.

Concentrate the mind on the present moment”

It was straight from Buddha, still relevant after 2,500 years.

Why?

I stumbled upon a wonderful illustration from Tim Urban, see the image below.

We think a lot about those black lines: the roads not taken, the opportunities missed, the ones that got away.

But most of us greatly underestimate the size of the lush green tree of possibilities that lie ahead of us.

Why?

When we think of the future, we do not think in terms of possibilities.

We get fixated on accomplishing a deterministic future either based on an arbitrary wishlist or for social signaling purposes.

We assume the future can be controlled and the outcome will align with our expectations. Neither is guaranteed.

Trying to control the uncontrollable is the shortest path to misery.

On the contrary, staying in the present moment lets you experience life to the fullest and makes you aware of future possibilities.

You will enjoy the present moment and will always be excited about the future.

The green dot in the image is your life, today and every single day in the future.

The universe is ever expanding, time does not end and we will always be at the beginning of infinity.

What does it mean?

There will never be a destination so it is very important to enjoy the journey every single moment.

There you go, from Buddha to Tim Urban, a seamless connection, just 2500 years apart.

Wishing you all a Happy New Year.

Are you fired up? Ready to go.
