Two- faced humans hoodwink Bengal Tiger – Lateral Thinking Lessons
Sundarbans national park tiger conservation project was a resounding success. Unfortunately, tigers under protection had been killing 60 people a year.
Experts tried to stop man-eating tigers by using clothed dummies laced with human scents, they also erected electric fence where possible. Nothing worked.
Until, the students at the nearby science club suggested wearing rubber face masks on back of their heads. The trick worked and the fatality rate dropped dramatically.
Students explained their lateral thinking:
1. Tigers only attacked people from behind
2. Face mask eyes making eye contact with the predator was a deterrent
3. Inspired by butterflies, beetles and caterpillars – all have developed patterns that look like big eyes to fool predators
Sometimes simple solutions can crack complex problems.
Powerful eye contact is primal necessity to engage with audience
Note:
The silver lining during lockdown has been thinking/reading/family walking time in lieu of commuting.
I must admit, my son is increasingly reluctant to walk with us, not cool anymore. I had to present evidence to prove, I was not making this up.
